Proposal for a new casino in New York City submitted by Genting; Set to become the state's largest Integrated Resort
In a significant move for the New York City casino industry, Genting Malaysia's US subsidiary, Genting New York LLC, has presented an ambitious expansion plan for Resorts World New York City (RWNYC). The proposed expansion, if successful, could see the integrated resort becoming New York State's largest, boasting a 350,000 square foot casino, additional 1,600 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat entertainment arena, and much more.
The plan, which was formally presented to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) in July 2025, also includes 350,000 square feet of convention and meeting space, additional shopping and dining options, a performance venue, new housing units (3,000 units), and infrastructure improvements. A sports academy is also planned for the former racetrack site, known as Aqueduct Park.
The $5 billion bid is a partnership with the New York Racing Association (NYRA) and is well-positioned due to existing infrastructure, union support, and housing commitments. However, Genting faces reputational challenges from a recent fine in Nevada and local competition, making the license uncertain but still viable.
The expansion of RWNYC is contingent upon securing the state casino license, which as of mid-July 2025 is still pending state approval. If granted, construction can start immediately, with a provisional opening date of July 2026, assuming all necessary approvals and readiness for construction are in place.
However, with proposals just being presented and licensing yet to be decided, the potential opening is likely several years away, typically requiring multiple years for approval, construction, and development. The expansion plan is currently under review, and its realization and opening are contingent on state licensing decisions and subsequent development timelines.
